The edition, which marks the 60th anniversary of the festival in the municipality of Caminha, in the district of Viana do Castelo, will also feature Da Weasel, The Kooks, Refused, I Prevail, The Stranglers, The Damned, The Ting Tings, Palaye Royale, Hybrid Theory and Stereo MC’s.

Starsailor, Girlband!, Altered Images and Girl Scout will also be performing at the festival.

Paulo Ventura, from the organization, pointed out at a press conference in Vilar de Mouros that Surprise & Expectations has been holding the festival for 10 years and wanted to have “a stronger and more solid line up, reflecting what Vilar de Mouros is all about”.

“It’s an eclectic line-up. It’s not quite finished yet because there are three artists left”, he noted, promising to continue “putting on the best festival possible”.

The person in charge also noted that Papa Roach are ending their European tour in Vilar de Mouros and that the Sex Pistols will be performing with vocalist Frank Carter.

Vilar de Mouros is the name of the Minho village in the municipality of Caminha, district of Viana do Castelo, which hosts the festival.

The country’s first music festival, launched by doctor António Barge, took place in 1965 and began as an event to promote popular music from Alto Minho and Galicia.

The 1971 edition, which gave it the reputation of ‘Portuguese Woodstock’, was attended by, among others, Elton John and Manfred Mann.
