The homes that will be handed over today are intended for supported rental for 37 families, totalling 97 people.
By the end of the year, the Lisbon district council expects to hand over 105 more homes, 60 of which will be supported rental and 45 affordable rental, according to the president of Cascais City Council, Carlos Carreiras (PSD), quoted in the statement.
“In Housing, we have initiated a process that aims to ensure that everyone has the right to a decent home. Concrete solutions to ensure that more families, more young people and more residents of Cascais have access to decent housing”, highlighted the social-democratic mayor.
This support comes within the scope of the municipal program Habitar Cascais, integrated into the Local Housing Strategy, with supported rent being intended for families with economic needs and affordable rent for families with average income.
The program foresees the provision of 3,600 municipal houses by 2028, through the construction of new developments and the rehabilitation of existing neighbourhoods, with a total investment estimated at 357 million euros.
“That is why we are moving forward with the Local Housing Strategy. We diagnose the needs, plan solutions and mobilize resources”, according to Carlos Carreiras, also quoted in the city hall note.
The City Council is acquiring land to build up to 4,000 homes, with the goal of maintaining a construction rate of 800 homes per year for 15 years, the statement adds.
