Portugal is presented on the initiative's website as a welcoming and inclusive nation, as it is considered one of the countries that most respects LGBTI+ people.
The organisation also says that with the “growing political polarization” in Portugal and Europe, the event takes on even greater importance.
The program includes concerts, performances, workshops, art exhibitions and other cultural events.
Under the motto “Proudly Yourselves”, Europride 2025 calls for the celebration of authenticity, unity and love. “It is a reminder that everyone deserves respect, visibility and the freedom to live with pride, without fear or shame,” the organisation states.
“In a world of rapid change and social challenges, it is more important than ever that we stand together. EuroPride 2025 will be a powerful platform to amplify our voices, celebrate our identities and defend fundamental human rights for all,” says the event’s presentation.
The organizers emphasise that Portugal has made “remarkable progress” in promoting the rights of LGBTI+ people. Same-sex marriage has been legal in the country since 2010.
“Through a vibrant parade, powerful speeches, cultural events and the Human Rights Conference, EuroPride 2025 will amplify the voices that need to be heard, ensuring that love, diversity and acceptance take center stage,” promises the organization, which expects thousands of people from all over the world to participate in the event.
One of the main events is the traditional 'Pride' march, which will start in Saldanha and parade along Avenida da Liberdade to Terreiro do Paço, on the 21st.
