The show, entitled “Flores do Verde Ramo”, also commemorates the 700th anniversary of the death of King D. Dinis and is part of the program of the Sounds of the City project, which aims to mark the 12th anniversary of the inscription of the “University of Coimbra, Alta and Sofia” on the UNESCO World Heritage list, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Despite free entry, the show requires tickets, which can be collected, up to two per person, from the 16th at the UC Tourism Shop and at the São Francisco Convent.
In a note sent to the Lusa news agency, the University of Coimbra stressed that the cultural event promoted annually by the RUAS Association - Recreating the University, Alta and Sofia will take place this year between the 16th and 22nd, under the theme of reflection and artistic intervention with the theme "Verses of Time, Voices of Heritage”.
According to the statement, the multidisciplinary program “invites reflection and intervention on heritage and the revisiting of spaces and cultural works, through concerts, project presentations and guided tours”.
Sons da Cidade begins on the 16th, a Monday, with the presentation of the preliminary study for the requalification of the Associação Académica de Coimbra complex, by architect Gonçalo Byrne.
On Tuesday the 17th, in the UC Senate Room, the management plan for the “University of Coimbra, Alta and Sofia” will be presented, and, still on the subject of heritage, on Saturday the 21st, the Open Yard activity will take interested parties on two visits to the ongoing construction work in the Gerais building.
On the last day of the program, a Sunday the 22nd – the date on which the UNESCO classification will be 12 years old – there will be a guided tour of the schools on Rua da Sofia in the morning, a concert by musicians from the Orquestra Clássica do Centro in the bridge building on the same street (over Avenida Central) at 6:30 pm, and the first screening of the documentary “Salatinas: Memórias da Velha Alta de Coimbra”, produced by Tiago Cerveira, Rafael Vieira and Filipa Queiroz, at 9:15 pm, in the Porta Férrea square.
