According to the most recent report “Global Wealth Report 2025” by UBS, this growth translates into some 3,200 more people into the group of millionaires in the country over the last year, consolidating a trend of growth of this select club in recent years, although this year at a slower pace than in previous years.
According to calculations by the Swiss bank, the approximately 175 Portuguese millionaires hold approximately 376 billion dollars in assets, around 2,149 million euros per millionaire. This value compares to an average wealth per adult in Portugal of 163,933 dollars, while the median wealth is 81,353 dollars — a clear sign of the concentration of wealth in the upper echelons, according to a report by ECO.
The UBS data also highlights that most Portuguese people have a more conservative allocation of their assets when compared to other European countries, reflecting a tradition of investing in real estate assets.
Analysts at the Swiss bank reveal, for example, that in 2024, financial assets represented 36.5% of the gross wealth of the Portuguese, while non-financial assets — mainly real estate and land — accounted for 74.5% of the total, showing the weight of real estate assets in the portfolios of Portuguese families. Debt, in turn, remained relatively controlled, standing at 10.9% of gross wealth, a value close to that of other southern European countries, such as Spain and Greece.
Why do I need to know this not the leadt bit intetested.
