The annual report, which aims to analyse the digital interests of young people, reveals a growing fascination with AI-powered 'chatbots', the viral rise of Italian 'brainrot' memes and a growing attention to Sprunki.
Despite this, the statement says, YouTube continues to be the most popular app among children worldwide (29.77%), as well as in Portugal (27.28%). TikTok is the app that ranks second in Portugal (15.05%), a detail that differs from the data at a global level, where WhatsApp ranks second.
"Children are interacting more than ever with new technologies. Recent studies indicate that children aged 8 to 10 spend, on average, six hours a day on screens, while pre-teens (aged 11 to 14) spend, on average, around nine hours a day.", the document also states, highlighting the importance of parents understanding "what content captures their children's attention in the digital space and what content they are looking for".
