Officially accessible to the public now is the first section of a 23km network of greenways that connects towns and villages along the disused railway route between Midleton and Youghal in east Cork.
The project intends to link Youghal, Mogeely, Killeagh, and Midleton; a second segment is scheduled to open later this year.
According to Jack Chambers, the Minister of State at the government of Transport, the government has invested around €18.4 million in the greenway's development thus far.
Delighted to officially open the first section of the Midleton to Youghal Greenway earlier today.

He continued: “The quality of the infrastructure and ease of access will improve the environment of the towns and villages along the way, making it more attractive to opt for sustainable transport modes for daily activities as well as meeting the needs of local communities in terms of health, fitness, and connection to nature.”
In the Bishop Street neighbourhood of Cobh, County Cork, a new Safe Route to School has opened, bringing with it expanded walkways and a reduced road to slow down traffic near nearby schools.
