Wetland conservation

The “wetland cities” identification scheme, which encourages the recognition of their importance and a commitment to their protection, has accredited 31 metropolises from Chile to China.

This year, Valdivia in Chile was acknowledged for its decades-long citizen movement to protect black-necked swans, leading to the restoration of the Cruces River.

Among other additions were the Chinese cities Hangzhou and Geneva, Switzerland, which incorporate wetland protection into urban policy.
