"It was with deep consternation that I learned of the tragic plane crash in India, in which seven Portuguese nationals were travelling. On my behalf and on behalf of the Government, I would like to express my condolences and deep solidarity with the families of the victims", wrote Luís Montenegro on the social network X.

A plane crashed today at Ahmedabad airport, in western India, with more than 200 people on board, including seven Portuguese nationals.

On its official website, the airline Air India confirmed that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed after takeoff.

The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1:38 pm, had 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, one Canadian and seven Portuguese, according to Air India.
