The North of mainland Portugal will still have some showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, but from then on, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts a progressive decrease in instability until the heat arrives next Monday.

For the North and Central coast, some cloudiness and slightly lower temperatures than in recent days are also expected in the next two days.

With the weather improving, Friday will be mostly cloudy across most of mainland Portugal and maximum temperatures will rise slightly, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees in districts such as Évora, Beja and Faro.

Over the weekend, especially from Sunday onwards, "the weather is most likely to stabilise and temperatures will rise", added the IPMA.

The heat is expected to return in full force on Monday, with maximum temperatures exceeding 30 degrees across most of mainland Portugal.
