In Australia, photographer Ben Alldridge has become the first person to capture photographic evidence of a glowing marsupial in its natural habitat.

As part of the 2025 Beaker Street Science Photography Prize, he submitted a photo of the Tasmania-native Eastern Quoll, using ultra-violet camera technology to make visible its biofluorescent patterns.
Biofluorescence is also seen in various animals such as polar bears, moles, zebras, wombats, armadillos and more.
