"For now, we don't suspect foul play. It was an unfortunate accident, but we have to wait for the autopsy results," a PJ source told Lusa.

The man was enjoying a vacation in Albufeira and reportedly disappeared in the early hours of Saturday, prompting family and friends to launch an appeal on social media for help locating him.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, Irishman Mark Kiely, a native of Donegal (Republic of Ireland), was last seen around 2 a.m. on Saturday near downtown Albufeira, near the Peneco beach tunnel.

His body was found by locals on Monday at the bottom of a cliff near Albufeira's fishing port.

The Maritime Police were called to the scene, and the Judiciary Police were called to investigate the cause of death and the criminal police agency ruled out "any possibility of foul play."

This is the fifth British tourist death recorded in Albufeira since June: earlier that month, a 21-year-old was found on the stairs leading to Avenida da Liberdade, and another Scottish tourist, 38, was found dead in a vacant lot in the Cerro de Águia area, days after he disappeared.

In July, two British tourists, aged 27 and 29, were found dead in the swimming pool of an aparthotel in the municipality of Albufeira.

In each case, the PJ was called to investigate the cause of death, ruling out foul play.
