The fourth edition of the Castro Mineiro festival, which runs until Sunday, will take place at Parque da Liberdade in Castro Verde, organized by the city council in partnership with Boliden Somincor, the concessionaire of the Neves-Corvo mine, located in that municipality.
In a statement, the Alentejo municipality explained that this festival "was created with the purpose of promoting and elevating the mining culture and identity that have been built over the last four decades" in the municipality.
The Neves-Corvo mine, which produces zinc and copper and is the largest in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe, "has transformed the socioeconomic reality of the municipality and Campo Branco, making this region strongly linked to mining activity," he added.
Music is one of the event's highlights, with performances by António Zambujo on Friday and Dillaz on Saturday, both at 10:30 pm, while the band Átoa takes the stage on Sunday at 7 pm.
The program also includes performances by DJs and several Alentejo singing and traditional music groups.
The festival includes a guided tour of the Neves-Corvo mine on Saturday morning, as well as wine tasting, children's entertainment, food stalls, a photography exhibition, and another featuring historic and sports cars.
As part of the event, the network of trails in the Iberian Pyrite Belt in Portugal will be presented on Friday at 4:30 pm.
