Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will arrive in Berlin on Thursday at 4:00 PM (3:00 PM in Lisbon), but the official program in Germany will only begin on Friday at 11:00 AM, with a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at his official residence, Bellevue Palace.
The President of the Republic will be received at the palace with an official welcome ceremony, which will include the playing of the national anthems, a review, and a flag salute, before holding a bilateral meeting with Steinmeier.
After this meeting, the President of the Republic will have lunch at a Portuguese restaurant before, at 4:40 pm, attending the Bürgerfest (Citizens' Festival) with his German counterpart, also at the Bellevue Palace, which this year features Portugal as a guest country.
The two-day festival aims to "honour volunteer work and promote civic engagement among citizens," according to a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic.
According to the Portuguese Embassy in Germany, Portugal, as the guest country, will dedicate its stalls to themes such as the sea, culture, national cuisine, and even football, with one of the stands displaying the Nations League trophy won by the national team in June.
During his visit to Bürgerfest, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony and participate in a discussion with German First Lady Elke Büdenbender and the Rector of the Catholic University, Isabel Capeloa Gil, on the topic "How to Give Hope to Children in Times of Crisis."
At the end of his visit to Bürgerfest, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will attend performances by the Portuguese band Black Mamba and the German country rock band The BossHoss.
On Saturday, the President of the Republic leaves for Lisbon at 11:00 am, and there are no scheduled events in Berlin.
The last time Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was in Germany was between June 7th and 8th, as part of the June 10th celebrations, where, together with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, he met with the Portuguese community in Stuttgart.
During that brief visit to Germany, the President of the Republic was also in Munich, where, with Luís Montenegro, he watched the national team's victory in the Nations League final against Spain in the stadium.
