Paris 2024 Paralympians Marco Meneses (50 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 individual medley), in the S11 class, and Tomás Cordeiro (100 backstroke and 200 individual medley), in the S10 class, lead the delegation.
Joining them are Ana Castro (100 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 100 butterfly), in S8, João Fidalgo (400 freestyle and 100 backstroke), in S10, and Ricardo Soares (400 freestyle), in S7. Mission leader Carlos Lopes noted that he leads a "very young, but aspirational" delegation, seeking "the best results" in an intermediate stage on the road to qualifying for the Paralympic Games.
"Our expectations are always the best, but we cannot forget that while a personal best depends solely on the athlete, a medal depends on the athlete, their personal best, and the other swimmers," noted the vice-president of the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN), Mário Cardoso, in statements released on 14 September.
