Located in the municipality of Arouca, the village is often referred to as the most isolated village in Portugal, and for good reason.
Drave is located in a remote area of the Serra da Freita and has no accessible roads for cars. To get there, you have to hike about 4 kilometres along mountain trails.
Like many other villages in the interior, Drave gradually lost its population. Young people emigrated, older people died, and living conditions became unsustainable.
Despite being uninhabited, Drave has not been completely forgotten. Scouts from various regions use the village as an activity ground and have helped keep some structures standing, according to a report by idealista.
