The new school, located in Alcântara, offers a Cambridge British curriculum for ages 3 to 14, with planned annual expansion culminating in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in 2027.
One of the school's major differentiators is its campus. Situated in the heart of Alcântara, the project has breathed new life into a former Napolitana pasta and flour factory, an architectural landmark from 1908. Following careful restoration that preserved its historical identity, the 11,500 m² space has been transformed into a modern and sustainable learning ecosystem, with fully equipped areas including classrooms and laboratories, an auditorium, a gymnasium, and spaces dedicated to arts, technology, and sports.
Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson, Founding Head, shared his enthusiasm for this milestone: "Opening The Lisboan and welcoming our first students has been profoundly rewarding. I am inspired by the creativity of our teachers and how students are already filling the campus with life and possibilities, whether in our spaces like the gym and theatre, or in extracurricular activities. These moments show what makes The Lisboan unique: a school with soul, where learning goes far beyond the classroom. Together, we are laying the foundations of a community where curiosity is nurtured, resilience is strengthened, and every student feels they belong."
