In Yemen, the Middle East’s least electrified country, a new solar power project is now bringing a ray of hope amid decades of fuel shortages and war-damaged power infrastructure.

The Aden Solar Power Plant has supplied daily electricity to up to 170,000 homes since 2024, supporting local businesses and easing the strain on residents in the southern city.
Funded by the UAE, the company has announced plans to expand in 2026, which could make solar energy the cornerstone of Yemen’s recovery and development.
