The proposal made by Chega was approved with votes in favour of the PSD, IL, and CDS-PP, CNN Portugal reports.
The PS, Livre, PCP, and BE voted against. The JPP and PAN abstained.
While the IL and CDS-PP parties declared support for the Chega bill that "prohibits the concealment of faces in public spaces, with certain exceptions," the PSD (Social Democratic Party) expressed its "willingness to pursue this path," but argued that "the proposed text can and should be improved in a specialised hearing."
The proposed penalties include fines ranging from €200 to €4,000.
The bill will now be discussed in the parliamentary committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms, and Guarantees.
Maybe the Buqah will become a uniform of resistance to Fascist rule like the Frog Suit.

And about time too! They should also ban all face coverings unless it is for medical purposes, too many gangs starting up covering their faces!

I doubt if supporters of this bill have any genuine concerns about women's rights or security. They are just using these reasons to hide the real one, which is Islamophobia.
How many women wear the burqa in Portugal, anyway? Surely our parliamentarians should have more important matters with which to occupy themselves.
