Sánchez announced this decision on social media during the week in which, as usual, the European Union will have to switch to winter time.
For the Spanish Prime Minister, this time change no longer makes sense; most citizens are protesting against it, and science confirms that it no longer represents energy saving and instead disrupts biological rhythms.

Long time coming, and it's really about time (puns intended). The twice yearly change makes no sense anymore.

For once, this fake socialist is talking sense. Let's hope that Portugal and the other countries will follow this example as soon as possible!

I agree there's little point, other than tradition now, to change the time twice a year.
Maybe Spain could also look at reverting to their original UTC+0 time zone.
General Franco changed their time zone to be 'in step' with Berlin and his good friend Adolf. did to

I don't understand people who say the time change doesn't make sense. It makes perfect sense to me...there is more daylight available in the summer, and summer time allows more of it to be used later in the day when it is useful. I like the fact that it stays light until after 10pm during the summer. The only thing that keeping winter time all year would accomplish is that it will start to get light out at 3:30 am during the summer. Who does that help exactly??

I did not know what to think of this proposal, but after reading about it, Europe HAS TO keep summer and winter time OR Europe has to split itself into two time zones.
Here is the issue. Due to the width of Europe without having summer and winter time, there would be regions totally screwed.
For example without summer time Poland would have a rising sun at 3 AM, which would be quite unbearable. And without winter time Spain would have to wait around 10 AM to see any sunlight.
Meaning we either split Europe into multiple time zones, or we keep the summer and winter. I say we keep the summer and winter.
