In a statement, the municipality reported that a bidding process is underway to lease a private indoor pool in the municipality, intended for the "Senior Active" project's water aerobics and hydrotherapy sessions.

At the same time, preparations are underway to expand the project, with the creation of new gym classes, reinforcing the diversity of activities available to the elderly population.

To enable the maintenance of swimming programs in facilities outside the municipality, the municipality will provide one-off financial support of 25,000 euros to the Ginásio Clube Naval and the Faro Swimming Club.

Faro's municipal swimming pools closed due to the severe deterioration of the building and associated machinery, and the urgent need for structural renovation work. The city government estimates that the work will last "no less than" a year and a half.
