In the 100-metre freestyle heats, Vicente Pereira improved his world record, swimming in 1:04.83 minutes, before winning gold in the distance, in a final in which he was slower (1:05.41 minutes).

The 20-year-old then joined Diogo Rego, Diogo Matos, and André Almeida to win the European title in the 4x100-metre individual medley, also with a new world record of 5:22.16 minutes. Matilde Gaspar also broke the world record in the 200-meter breaststroke, swimming her heat in 3:39.61 minutes, then winning gold with a time of 3:40.39.

In the same distance, but in the men's event, Diogo Matos was crowned European champion, completing his race in 3:19.05 minutes, with José Vieira taking bronze, his 3:31.24 minutes also a new Masters 2 world record.

In the 50-metre backstroke, Diana Torres took bronze: the Portuguese swimmer swam in 46.95 seconds in a final in which Britain's Caitlin Hatfield became the new European record holder with 44.05.

In the morning, in a head-to-head final of the 400-metre freestyle, André Almeida took silver (5:45.34 minutes) and Francisco Montes took bronze (5:55.77).
