This place was probably constructed 3000 years before the English Stonehenge, and it still is a challenge for archaeologists. The first evidence of construction in the area goes back to 6000 BC, which makes this monument more than 8000 years old. It is believed that it was used for three millennia before being discovered in 1964.

In total, there are 95 megalithic stones shaped like eggs, in a location that shows an indication of a connection to the universe, with various astronomical alignments being observed.

Located 15 kilometres from Evora, Almendres stands in the region with its enigmatic traces of the distant past, showcased in stones with human and spiral carvings.

Funny how we understand so little about our ancient past, especially when questions like “Why?”, “How?” or “Who?” are very difficult to answer.
