In parliament, the minister was questioned by deputies about the fact that the €30 million for the construction of the CITs had been removed from the list of projects financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) due to a lack of guarantees of execution within the established deadlines.

In response, Maria Lúcia Amaral clarified that Portugal “did not lose the 30 million euros,” as this funding for the construction of the Temporary Accommodation Centres “is allocated to other purposes,” and the construction of the Temporary Accommodation Centres “will be financed through other means.”

“We gave advance notice of the impossibility of having the two Temporary Accommodation Centres fully constructed by July 2026,” so the 30 million euros will be “reprogrammed for other purposes,” she said, arguing that “there were several factors that led to the delay in the construction of these Temporary Accommodation Centres.”

The minister assured that these two Temporary Accommodation Centres, planned for Lisbon and Porto, will be built.
