The event is scheduled for 6pm today and will take place at the Lighthouse Directorate facilities in Paço de Arcos.

The launch is open to the public, and those interested can purchase the coin on site.

According to the AMN, the event marks the beginning of the “Iconic Lighthouses of Portugal” series, where five new commemorative coins will be put into circulation, issued by the Bank of Portugal and produced by INCM, one each year.

The first, alluding to the Centenary of the Lighthouse Directorate and commemorating the lighthouse with the largest functioning European optics and the southwesternmost in continental Europe, has a face value of five euros. A gold-proof version intended for collectors will be launched simultaneously.

The object will also feature a silver version with a luminous ring alluding to the illumination of Portugal's lighthouses. The coin designs are by José João de Brito, a renowned sculptor with works in sculpture, ceramics, and medal making, among other fields.
