Charity Dinner Evening

On Sunday, 7th December, Gurkha Kitchen will be hosting a Charity Dinner Evening in aid of a local Algarve charity, “Arm In Arm” (Assoc. Todos Team) in support the good causes that Arm In Arm contributes to.

Throughout the year Arm In Arm supports many organisations across Algarve and people that are in need of extra support that they cannot access in any other way. Namely: Bombeiros, Scout Troops, Families that need extra support, Children’s Homes, kid’s sports and many more.

Every December Arm In Arm spends over €6,000 to provide Christmas Presents and food for kids in Children’s Homes and families that otherwise could not afford these extras at Christmas time.

About Arm In Arm

Our charity was founded in 2018 in response to the big fires in Monchique that August. Our founder Richard Hawes (Rick) was running around in his car sourcing and delivering items to people who had lost a great deal up there.

A kind Dutch couple then gave him a 2nd hand van so he could carry more items and he opened a small shop (“Charity Barn”) in aid of the Bombeiros, adjacent to a restaurant now called Roosters on the N270 outside of SB Messines.

Following that the then Mayor of Messines allowed him to use a disused warehouse in the town for storage of items collected. The model became a fundraiser where people donated household items which were collected by the van and sold to provide funds for materials needed over a wide range of local people.

After the warehouse, a charity shop was opened in the town of SB Messines which after a couple of good years was moved to a bigger shop on the outskirts of the town.

In early 2020 the charity was formalised and is now an “Associacao” (Associacao Todos Team) created to support all kinds of people with needs that cannot be sourced elsewhere.

As of today, sadly, Rick is no longer with us, but we still have the van (17 years old and still going). We have The Bombeiros Charity Barn and the bigger Shop. The charity is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers. (No one gets paid). We have a dedicated team of around 20 people who do everything that’s needed for the day to day operations and we are growing year on year. We still make sure we support our brave Bombeiros in any way we can and are also there to help the many people and organisations in Algarve that genuinely need extra support.
