In a joint press release, the Lisbon Metro, CP – Comboios de Portugal (Portuguese Railways), and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) justify the disruption with construction and track replacement work at Cais do Sodré.
The works, the responsibility of the Lisbon Metro, in coordination with CP and IP, are part of the construction of the new tunnel that will connect the future Santos station, on the Circular line, to the Cais do Sodré station, and are part of the modernisation and improvement program of the Lisbon rail and metro network, which aims to make the infrastructure compatible with the expansion of the network.
According to the statement, rail traffic will be affected by the following changes: tonight there will be no trains departing from Cais do Sodré after 10 PM and from Cascais after 9:30 PM; on Saturday night, trips from Cais do Sodré after midnight and from Cascais after 11:30 PM will be suspended; on Sunday, trains departing from Cais do Sodré between 5:30 AM and 8:20 AM and between 8 PM and 1:30 AM will be cancelled, as well as trains departing from Cascais between 5:30 AM and 7:44 AM and between 7:34 PM and 1:30 AM.
The statement also says that Lisbon Metro service will not be affected and that CP rail service between Oeiras and Cascais will resume during the works.
CP (Comboios de Portugal) states that, "to minimise disruption," it will provide a replacement road service between Cais do Sodré and Algés during the mentioned periods, detailing that the buses will circulate along Avenida 24 de Julho and Avenida da Índia and "will be properly identified and equipped with access ramps for people with reduced mobility," but will not allow the transport of bicycles and scooters.
