In a statement, the Canadian airline says that the new Air Canada service to Ponta Delgada “reflects the strong cultural ties between our two countries, and the Azores will now be closer than ever with direct flights to São Miguel Island.”
Air Canada adds that the flights will be operated “on narrow-body aircraft, with the option of Premium or Economy cabins,” also highlighting that Ponta Delgada is Air Canada's third destination in Portugal.
The three weekly flights will depart from Toronto on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and from Ponta Delgada on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, according to a report by Publituris.
Air Canada's operation will be seasonal and is scheduled to end on September 6th.
This announcement is part of a broader strategy to expand Air Canada's operations in Europe, with the airline revealing new flights between Montreal and Berlin (Germany), Montreal and Nantes (France), Halifax and Brussels (Belgium), as well as flights between Montreal and Tel Aviv (Israel).
