In October of this year, the mother and daughter-in-law team behind the luxury fashion label Leodoro officially opened their new and exclusive boutique in the heart of Almancil, next to the Jardim das Comunidades.
Instead of selling other brands, the Leodoro team focuses on creating their own exclusive collections of premium quality garments and accessories, including 2-Ply Cashmere sweaters, scarves, and elevated leisure-related apparel.
In addition to the fabric quality and design, great importance is being placed on offering customers individual pieces that literally fit well.
Once one enters the premises and sees the sparkling chandelier in the middle of the beautifully decorated boutique, one intuitively understands that Leodoro has more to offer than just the products themselves.
“We really want to give customers the feeling that they have come to a place that offers a uniquely personal shopping experience, where they can feel inspired in surroundings that support their overall well-being.”, comments Leodoro founder Elke Groos.
It was the relative scarcity of such “special places” in the golden triangle region of Portugal that initially gave birth to the idea of Leodoro in 2024. Feedback from dozens of local friends who felt the same way about the limited available options for carefully curated shopping experiences around Almancil strengthened Groos’ resolve to turn her initial frustration into a tangible entrepreneurial reality.
Öznur Stucken, Elke Groos’ daughter-in-law, was the perfect partner in crime for the realisation of their shared vision, due to her two decades' worth of professional experience in the international fashion and textile industry:
“Our goal to create timeless elegance and excellence naturally led us to use classic fabrics like silk and, of course, cashmere for our collections, but we are also exploring modern fabrics like the ultra-soft modal, if we believe that our customers would enjoy wearing them”, the designer and former buying and sourcing agent explains.
The high quality of the 2-Ply Cashmere used, as well as the incredible softness of Leodoro’s modal-based leisurewear pieces, speaks for itself, as does the way in which the first Leodoro collection was cleverly designed to allow for individual pieces to be easily combined to effortlessly create a classic look.
Initially, the majority of products on offer are aimed at sophisticated and style-conscious female customers, but gentlemen can already enjoy a number of timeless and long-lasting Cashmere sweaters.
“Our small and unique collections will, of course, keep evolving, which is why it all depends on the specific product and the feedback we receive from our customers. On one hand, we have our own design vision, of course, but at the same time, we want our Leodoro customers to feel that their opinions are heard and reflected in the future direction of our collections. We are not a corporate giant, we are a small family business with a passionate dream to create beauty in Almancil.”, remarks Öznur Stucken.
This highly personal approach and the related individual touches are not only reflected in the new boutique’s products, but also in its interior design. Warm colours and a sense of spaciousness invite customers to slow down and truly appreciate their surroundings.
A large and golden-framed portrait behind the boutique’s counter, showing what appears to be a rather regal-looking dog wearing a man’s dressing gown, hints at the origins of the fashion boutique’s name, as Elke Groos explains:
“A major source of pure joy in our lives is my dog Leo, an Australian cobberdog, who may not have a great fashion sense, but is definitely someone who appreciates the finer things in life and inspires us every day. It was, therefore, only natural for us to name our fashion label after him. We wanted to choose a name that would be easy to remember and would phonetically remind us of leonine strength, elegance and the timeless beauty of gold.”
The Leodoro team made the conscious decision not to have an online shop, in order to properly establish the importance of the physical boutique environment in Almancil.
In an age where nearly anything can be directly bought online, this decision is yet another measure to underline the importance of the community-building approach at the heart of Leodoro’s approach.
With temperatures dropping and Christmas approaching fast, Leodoro’s Cashmere collection is proving a hit with customers, but Öznur Stucken is quick to point out that Leodoro is a boutique for all seasons:
“Right now is, of course, the perfect time to buy long-lasting Cashmere products as a Christmas gift, but with our elevated leisurewear collection, we offer beautiful clothes that are perfect for the Algarve, no matter what time of year.”
The newly opened boutique welcomes customers from Wednesday to Saturday between 11am and 6pm.
On Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, Leodoro is closed to the general public; however, customers are offered the possibility to pre-book individual “shop on demand” time slots during those days for exclusive shopping experiences.
