According to data available on the Madeira airport website, by 7:45am, 11 departures and 11 arrivals had already been cancelled.
The information available on the website indicates that weather forecasts point to adverse conditions that may affect operations (departures and arrivals) until Saturday.
Passengers are advised to always check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued an orange warning (the second most severe) for today due to wind on the north coast, with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour expected.
The warning remains active at least until 6pm, after which it will be lowered to yellow.
As for sea conditions, IPMA has issued the most severe warning (red) from 9pm today until 6pm on Saturday.
