"On December 24th, Christmas Eve, the Porto Metro will close around 8pm. Similarly, the following day, service will only start at 9am across the entire network," reads a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.

The goal, the company explains, "is to give metro workers some more free time so that they, too, can spend the Christmas period with their families."

"This is at a time when demand for our service tends to be much lower," reads the same statement released.
