Snow is expected to begin falling between 6pm today and 9am tomorrow.

In Guarda and Castelo Branco, snow will fall on the highest points of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, with accumulations exceeding 10 cm above

1600 meters. In the Northwest mountains (Viana do Castelo, Braga, and Vila Real), snow accumulation will reach up to 10 cm above 1000 meters.

In the same Facebook post, Civil Protection reminded the public of the main precautions to take in these weather conditions, especially when driving.

According to the authority, before setting off, people should ensure they have sufficient fuel and that the car is in full working order to travel alternative routes or, if necessary, remain operational for extended periods in case of road closures. In addition, it is important to have a first-aid kit, warm clothing and food in the car.

During the trip, it is recommended to use snow chains as needed and adjust speed to weather conditions and road conditions.

Civil Protection also asks citizens to pay special attention in snowy areas, warning that snow can obscure holes and cracks; therefore, people should not walk alone, use only marked trails, and always maintain a point of reference so they can be rescued more easily in case of emergency.
