Democrats and Republicans differ, with Democrats more likely to favour public health and social work, while Republicans prioritise finance and business. When weighing interest versus earnings potential, 63 percent say students should prioritise interest, compared with 27 percent prioritising income.

The survey polled 2,265 U.S. adult citizens in November 2025. Electrical and mechanical engineering also rank highly, both 52 percent, followed by business, 48 percent, and finance and accounting, with 47 percent. 41 percent say history would be very interesting to study, followed by psychology, 35 percent, and criminal justice, 32 percent. The least recommended majors include liberal arts, 9 percent, philosophy, 10 percent, and anthropology, 10 percent.
