Retailers must display a clear notice for 60 days when product contents shrink without a price change. Fines for non-compliance can reach up to 15,000 euros. The Austrian parliament passed the law to curb hidden price increases tied to inflation.

Retailers argue the rules create extra administrative burdens and could raise shelf prices. Exceptions apply if the reduced quantity is already clearly shown or the price per unit rises less than three percent. Similar shrinkflation labelling laws are already in place in France, Romania and Hungary.

Well done, Austria. Let's have a similar law here!
