History often hides where we least expect it. Beneath the quiet streets of Sangalhos, the Aliança Underground Museum proves that more than anything else. An unassuming building houses not just cooling wine cellars, but an extensive collection of International art from Africa, India and Portugal. It also houses fossils and minerals.

Naturally, since it is part of the wine cellar, it also holds space for a special wine barrel room, where their house-made alcohols are ripening. It is a 1.5-hour guided tour that takes visitors down into these modern wine catacombs.

A journey that truly leads to the more than 1km-long tunnels and rooms featuring extraordinary pieces of art. There are also various other museums and houses curated by the same man around the country. As the Alliança Museum is part of the Berardo Museums.
