In statements to Lusa, the mayor of Lagos said that the Lagos WellTech Summit 2026 event aims to establish itself as a space for reflection, "addressing topics such as digital health, care integration, thermalism, health tourism, public policies, and sustainability."

According to Hugo Pereira, the international summit on health, well-being, and longevity "fits within the axes that Lagos has been developing, namely in the strategy for improving the quality of life of the population."

"It is an event that relates to the projects we have been developing and trying to implement with the community, with the improvement of health conditions in primary care, a work done in conjunction with the National School of Public Health," he emphasised.

At the same time, the mayor of the Faro district said that this initiative “aims to look to the future of preventive health and to build territories that are better prepared to respond to the challenges of longevity.”

Over two days, the summit aims to serve as a platform for strategic reflection on the current challenges facing health systems and the growth of the wellness economy.

Among the topics under discussion will be digital health, care integration, thermalism, health tourism, and public policies focused on sustainability.

According to the mayor, the Lagos WellTech Summit 2026 was designed as a space for “thought and action,” where scientific evidence and strategic vision intersect to develop solutions with a direct impact on communities.

“The event positions itself as a platform for articulation between health, technology, and territorial development, reinforcing the Algarve as a benchmark territory in the wellness and longevity economy.”

The program, which runs from 11 March until 12 March, includes panels dedicated to various areas of the sector, such as innovation in long-term care, with approaches to monitoring dependent populations, and preventive health, highlighting the role of water and thermalism in disease prevention.

Another of the highlighted themes will be the preparation of cities and regions to respond to demographic ageing, within the scope of the concept of smart territories.

Organised by Digital Health Portugal in collaboration with the Lagos City Council, the event aims to enhance the digital health ecosystem in Portugal and project, from the Algarve, innovative solutions for the health and wellness sector.
