The Minister, in a regulatory hearing before the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities, questioned the legal framework for teaching Portuguese abroad and assured that this is one of the ministry’s priorities.
"The proposal for the new legal framework, drafted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is finalised and is now being co-analysed with the Ministry of Finance and will then be negotiated with the unions," declared the head of Portuguese diplomacy.
The Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, Emídio Sousa, and the Minister lamented that teachers' salaries have not been reviewed since 2009.














Exactly who is going to be taught Portuguese here?
Brazilians? Angolans? Canadians?
Native speakers comprise 80% of total speakers here. I am learning because I live here - no other reason.

Is this intended for the teaching of Portuguese outside of Portugal?
As for the USA, Portugal could do well be insisting on the teaching of Portuguese in schools rather than Brazilian.
