In a press release, the APA explains that, following technical assessments carried out by the services of the Municipality of Olhão and the APA, it was concluded that “the natural cycles of the sea will not allow, in a timely manner, the replacement of sand in acceptable quantities to enable the use of the existing access walkways and the installation of bathing facilities on Praia da Fuzeta-Mar”.
Because of this, there will be sand replacement from the area close to the ebb/bar delta, along the beachfront.
“It is estimated that around 40,000 m³ of sand will need to be replaced, ensuring the minimum conditions for bathing on the beach. This intervention will be complemented by the natural cycles of coastal dynamics, which should contribute to the additional replenishment over time”, says the APA.
This will be an emergency intervention to allow the beach to be open in the summer.
The necessary investment, totalling 300 thousand euros, will be fully supported by the APA, while the execution of the works will be the responsibility of the Olhão City Council, under the terms of the protocol signed between the two entities.
