The company highlighted, in a statement, that the call for union organisations to attend the plenary meeting, which will take place on the night of 12 to 13 June, “expressly calls for the participation of all workers, without considering the need to ensure urgent and essential services”, due to the festivities of the Popular Saints of Lisbon.

According to the Lisbon Metro, this position “was maintained by the union organizations in a meeting with the company late this afternoon”.

The company concluded that “the minimum operational conditions and necessary safety conditions for maintaining the network in operation are not met”, taking into account the expected “exponential increase in demand” and “the absence of notifications already submitted by workers”.

In the statement, it also appealed to trade unions and workers to reschedule the plenary meeting, given “the disproportionate impacts caused and there being no urgency or issue that requires holding the plenary meeting on this occasion”. “The Lisbon Metro will remain committed to the swift and effective resolution of the matters that are the subject of the ongoing negotiation process and reiterates its firm commitment to an open, transparent and institutionally responsible dialogue with all structures representing workers”, it assured.

The company regretted “the inconvenience that the situation will cause to all people who choose public transport as a mobility option to celebrate the city’s festivities with peace of mind and safety”. He also said that information about the service to be carried out on June 12 and 13 will be permanently updated on its communication channels.

The Lisbon Metro operates four lines daily: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).

The metro normally operates between 6:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
