Organised by the Évora City Council, in partnership with entities from the municipality and the region, the centuries-old fair, “one of the largest popular celebrations in Alentejo”, takes place, as usual, in Rossio de S. Brás, located at the gates of the historic centre.

“This year's program includes music, exhibitions, a showcase of economic and social activities, sports, entertainment and gastronomy, with a focus on the indispensable taverns”, highlighted the municipality in a statement.

With free admission, the Feira de S. João will feature a musical lineup featuring Nena (Friday), Ana Moura (Saturday), Bandidos do Cante (Sunday), the Encontro de Etnografia e Folclore (Monday), Jafumega (Tuesday) and Pedro Calado (25th).

The artists Capicua (26th), Nuno Ribeiro (27th), António Zambujo (28th) and Plutónio (29th) will also perform on the event's main stage.

In addition to exhibitions from the economic and institutional sectors, crafts and decorative arts, the fair will include areas focused on sports and youth, located in the public garden, and the Espaço Criança, in the playground.

The agricultural exhibition will take place in the park of the Évora Agricultural Development Center (formerly IROMA), located near Rossio de S. Brás.

In the sports area, “one of the highlights” of the event is the traditional São João Grand Prix in athletics, with five and 10 kilometre races, scheduled for Saturday, starting at 9 pm, at the city’s sports complex.

The program also includes other music, dance and theatre shows, popular marches, the Alentejo Rafeiro Regional Competition, storytelling sessions, equestrian activities and walking, among other initiatives.

According to the city government, “thinking about improving mobility and smooth travel to the venue”, the free transportation network for the event was reinforced, with connections to peripheral parking lots.

These free shuttles will operate daily, between 8:00 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., on a continuous route with stops at the parking lots on Avenida Eng.

Created by decree of D. Sebastião, the Feira de S. João took place for the first time on June 24, 1569.
