"After four consecutive weeks of increases, the price of the basic food basket fell by 3.86 euros (down 1.59%) last week and now costs 238.93 euros", says the consumer protection organization.
However, since the beginning of the year, this basket of essential items has increased by €2.76 (up 1.17 percent).
"On January 5, 2022, when DECO PROteste began monitoring the cost of the basic food basket, the price was 187.70 euros, down 51.23 euros (down 27.29 percent)", says the organization.
Between June 18 and 25, courgette, tuna in oil and horse mackerel were the products whose price increased the most in percentage terms, between 10% and 13 percent.
"The price of courgette increased by 23 cents per kilo, to 1.95 euros. Tuna in oil saw its price rise by 16 cents, to 1.55 euros. Horse mackerel increased by 38 cents per kilo, to 4.19 euros," the consumer protection organization reports.
Between June 18 and 25, in addition to courgette, tuna in oil and horse mackerel, the largest percentage price increases were recorded for products such as Golden apples (up 10%) or sliced cured cheese (up 9 percent).
However, if "we compare the prices of this week with those of the first week of 2025, on the other hand, the largest percentage price increase was seen in products such as eggs (up 28 percent), Gala apples (up 24 percent) and oranges (up 20 percent)." "Since DECO PROteste began this analysis on January 5, 2022, the largest percentage increases were in beef for cooking (up 97%), eggs (up 80%) and oranges (up 65 percent)," concludes the organization.
