The remaining amount, Luís Montenegro indicated, will be 85% subsidized.
According to the prime minister, the measure is one of several measures included in a new "legislative instrument" approved by the PSD/CDS-PP executive, which will "function as a framework law" for similar emergency situations.
No deadlines were given for the measures to come into effect or whether they will have retroactive effect.
It's not the government, but the taxpayer that's funding this. It's property owners' own responsibility to finance the reconstruction of their homes, not the taxpayer. That's why insurance against fires exists. People should have insurance, rather than expecting a bailout from government.
Portugal has to move away from dependence on the state funding each person's needs and lifestyles. Take responsibility for your lives, folks!
