In a statement, the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) reports on the results of this nationwide operation, carried out in recent weeks, focused on verifying compliance with the legal requirements applicable to economic operators, specifically regarding indoor air quality in large commercial and service buildings (GES) with a usable floor area equal to or greater than 1,000 m².
ASAE's Operational Units inspected the buildings of more than 70 economic operators, including tourism developments, warehouses, and retail establishments, and initiated 30 administrative infraction proceedings.
The main violation detected was non-compliance with mandatory legal requirements regarding indoor air quality by owners of small and large commercial and service buildings.
In Portugal, ventilation and indoor air quality monitoring in public buildings (and commercial and service buildings) must comply with requirements such as annual air quality assessments, pollutant limits, and minimum fresh air flow rates, and are subject to inspection by ASAE.
Poor indoor air quality can affect the health, comfort, and productivity of occupants, with the requirements intended to ensure a healthy and safe environment.
