The organization estimates that the travel and tourism sector should represent 62.7 billion euros, or 21.5% of Portugal's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), representing an increase of 2.1 billion euros and 0.2 percentage points (p.p.), respectively.

Compared to 2019, this represents a 37.9% increase compared to the 45.4 billion euros pre-pandemic period, according to a report by Publituris.

Regarding employment, the WTTC predicts that Portugal will end 2025 with 1.2 million people working in the travel and tourism sector, a 17.3% increase compared to 2019.

Figures for the next decade indicate a gradual increase in the travel and tourism sector, reaching a value of €74.6 billion by 2035, representing 22.6% of GDP. This represents an average annual growth of 1.8% between 2025 and 2035, which is higher than the overall economy, which is expected to grow 1.2% per year.

In terms of human resources, the WTTC estimates that Portugal could reach 1.4 million people working in the travel and tourism sector, creating 190,000 new jobs over the next decade.

As for revenue, the WTTC clearly tips the scales in favour of international tourists, estimating that revenue could reach €33.1 billion in 2025 and rise to €40.6 billion in 2035, with an average annual growth rate of 2.1% over the next decade.
