According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), 2,212 incidents were recorded between midnight on Thursday and 7 am today, mainly fallen trees, floods, and road clearing, with 59% being floods.
The same source reported that 7,018 personnel and 2,622 land vehicles were deployed, with the highest incidence in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Setúbal, the Algarve region, and the Leiria district, but also in Coimbra and Santarém, although to a lesser extent.
In addition to the aforementioned orange warnings from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) for Setúbal and Faro, due to “persistent, sometimes heavy, precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms,” Beja is also under the same warning on Saturday, due to rain between 9:00am and 3:00pm, and with “west/southwest waves of 4 to 4.5 metres until 9:00pm” (Vicentina coast).
Throughout mainland Portugal, the yellow warning level remains in effect due to precipitation of “sometimes heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms” and, in coastal regions, because of “waves of four to five meters” until Saturday night, for now.
