Most famous for his book “Os Lusíadas”, the author described the travel, by sea, of the Portuguese navigators from Portugal to India. The book was written as an ode to the discovery of the maritime path to the Asian country.
Luís de Camões’ heritage is still present in Portugal, with a square in Lisbon dedicated to him, with the Bairro Alto street leading directly to him.
Although his current famous status, Luís de Camões’ life ended when he was surrounded by poverty, and, ironically, when the Portuguese empire started to decline, when the book praising the empire was published.
