“The situation […] remains unchanged at the beginning of 2026, and in the face of a scenario of instability and high LPG prices, the commitment to supporting the most vulnerable consumers and promoting sustainable policies to combat energy poverty also remains,” reads the text of the decree. 1016/2026, published today in the Official Gazette.

According to the decree, which approves the regulations for the Extraordinary and Exceptional Support “Solidarity Gas Cylinder” for this year, the extension of this program will be foreseen in the decree approving the budget of the Environmental Fund for 2026, with a maximum allocation of €865,000.

However, this amount is increased by the program's 2025 balance of 1.2 million euros, raising the total maximum allocation for the "Solidarity Bottle" this year to 2.065 million euros.

The support is intended for the purchase of liquefied petroleum gas

(LPG) in cylinders by beneficiaries of the social electricity tariff or minimum social benefits, and amounts to €15 per cylinder, with a maximum of two cylinders per month and 12 cylinders per year.

In the text of the decree published today – signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, and which comes into force on Friday – the Government justifies the extension of the “Solidarity Gas Cylinder” program with the continued instability in the energy sector this year, due to the combination of several international geopolitical conflicts, which has resulted in a significant increase in the price of LPG cylinders.
