Iran is undertaking an active and strategic project to fully seal its border with Afghanistan, designed to help fight drugs and weapons smuggling, human trafficking and illegal immigration, and secure movement of people and goods between the two countries.

The new $3.4 billion barrier consists of reinforced concrete slabs measuring 4 metres high and 1.1 metres thick, with a razor wire topper.
This wall is set to be finalised in three years, spanning over 900 kilometres, with up to 75km completed to date, and more than 300km under construction in northern Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province.
