According to data released by the statistics office, labour costs rose 6.8% year-on-year, 0.6 percentage points less than in March.

Material prices, on the other hand, rose 1.2%, accelerating compared to the 1% increase recorded in the previous month.

The cost of labour contributed three percentage points (3.3 in the previous month) to the annual variation rate of the New Home Construction Cost Index, and materials contributed 0.7 percentage points (0.5 in March), explains the IBGE.

Glass and mirrors, with an increase of approximately 20%, were the materials that most positively influenced the aggregate price variation, followed by coating, insulation and waterproofing materials and sanitary ware, with an increase of approximately 10%.

On the other hand, wood and wood derivatives, mild steel and galvanized sheet metal recorded a decrease of approximately 10% compared to the same period last year.

In the chain comparison, the variation in construction costs was 0.6% in April, an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous month, with the cost of materials increasing by 0.6% and labor by 0.7%.
