Juan Mayorga’s «Caminho do Céu» is based on a macabre historical event: the creation of a sham Jewish town during the Holocaust, staged by the Nazis and performed by prisoners at the Terezín concentration camp. In the play, in the run-up to an inspection of the camp by a Red Cross delegate, a Nazi commander orchestrates the deception with the help of a Jewish prisoner, forcing him to play the part of mayor of a town that does not exist.
